Why in News?

The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for establishment of National Cow Commission (Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog


What is National Cow Commission?

Work in collaboration with other government institutions 
Provide a framework for cow conservation 
Aayog will lead to conservation, protection and development of cattle population 
Scientific activities for genetic upgradation and increasing productivity of cows.

Background

Union Minister, in interim budget, announced that Rs 750 crore would be allocated for the Rashtriya Gokul Mission. Under the scheme, a Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog’ would be set up.

Significance

Conservation, protection and development of cattle population. 
Development and conservation of indigenous breeds
Increased growth of livestock sector 

Rashtriya Gokul Mission

It is a project under National Programme for Bovine Breeding and Dairy Development
Moreover, The objectives of this mission includes Conservation of indigenous breeds and their development to improve their genetic makeup, enhancing the milk productivity and distribution of disease free high genetic merit bulls for natural service.
